coolant alternative

I live in AR...temps don't get too bad cold...we'll see some 20s and teens at night in Dec and Jan...that's about it. My car stays in the garage. Could I just drain the coolant out and run water with some kind of additve like Redline Water Wetter or something. Just trying to make it safe in case I blow a headgasket...would rather not have coolant in the oil and kill bearings. (other post spooked me).

Water wetter may not be enough to guard against corrosion.

removing hood rear rubber seal will help keep temps lwr, just leave section of seal intact by a/c vent area.Of course a new 160 themstate will help and rad in good condition, upgraded fan helps also-FM or not-.Watch your tune in hotter areas or train your r/h foot to go easier.

My radiator appears to be in good order...don't have temp issues now even with the 180 t-stat.
That's a good thread.
RMI-25...sounds like good stuff.

I'm learning here...so will RMI 25 offset the ill effects of the coolant if it were to get in the oil pan?
IF I blew a headgasket the car would probably sit for a couple of months...I don't drive the car except for weekends and I want to do heads if I lift one. I know I'd have to drain the pan immediately. Just here asking dumb questions.

If coolant contacts the bearings, they will be damaged. Your best bet is to only use RMI-25 and distilled water.

No!! Thats why I run RMI-25, distilled water and antifreeze. Had a head gasket blow once but I got lucky and the gasket blew outward, no antifreeze in the motor.

If you use your car during the winter months, or store it in below freezing temps, just drain 1/2 the system and top back off with antifreeze. You could also just completely drain the cooling system if storing the car. When spring arrives, drain, flush, and refill with RMI-25 and distilled water. Brian
