Question Opinions on aftermarket camshafts

Thinking about buying a core motor and building it up from sctatch, so when I need to, I can just drop it in and go, then I can rebuild the motor that I had to yank out.

So, what are the various opinions and facts surrounding camshaft choices? Would I need a different cam in order to run reliable elevens? I'm looking for smooth idle, good vacuum and ability to breathe.

I'd love to run rollers, but I'm hearing that they're pretty expensive to procure.
