Eaton posi rebuild ?

I have a Eaton posi from a Capric police car that I am sure needs a rebuild, but my problem is I cant get it apart, I have broke several torx bits trying to unbolt the end cover bolts. Do these bolts turn the normal way, or are they reversed like the ring gear bolts are?

Also where can I get the clutches for this. TIA

if you are looking at torx its not an eaton its an auburn , throw it away as i understand they arent rebuildable ,, besides its probably a 30spline (88 up cars and trucks) and youll need to change your axles to use it since you should have 28spline axles

I always thought that the Albrun units had the z clip thing in it and the Eaton has the two springs in theirs.

Mine has the two springs

mine looks similar to the one on the right but it is flat on the non ring gear side that is where the torx bolts are'

It did have the#'s 14E2J cast in it

wish I had a camera I would take a PIC of it

eatons come stock from gm with the s spring , aftermarket eatons have 4 springs and HD eatons have 4 springs but they are heavier springs .

neither have torx holding the case top

Yep that is it CRAP, CRAP, CRAP, CRAP, here all this time I thought it was an Eaton.

I guess I cant do anything with that. I thought the police cars had Eatons in them CRAP, CRAP, CRAP, CRAP. TIA

they work , the upside to the rebuild problem is they can usually be bought really cheap , so if you need a posi and the splines fit your axles , run with it


also unlike aftermarket eatons your bearings from your current unit will fit

also be aware there are two series and three series cariers , if it came from a 256 rear than you cant install the 3.42 ring on it without a spacer and thats not a good thing to do

Can you tell me how many teeth are on a 3,42 gear, if not how can I tell if it is a three series carrier
