Having a problem reading TPS voltage with voltmeter

I have back probed the TPS with a safety pin, a paper clip, and even the probe itself to try to get a voltage reading and I just can't seem to get a reading. But when I check the voltage with the TPS disconnected I get the desired 5 volts. Can someone please help me here? I don't want to drive it until I get it fixed.

Oh yeah, I have one more question but this is turbo related. I don't know much about these cars yet and I have never owned a turbo car but the turbo generates A LOT of heat and I mean A LOT. When I turned it on the other day smoke was coming from the turbo, or at least heat. Is it supposed to do that or do I have a major leak somewhere?

http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/maintenance/TPS.html

and the idle voltage is .40 - .46 a little less than half a volt

Well I got the voltage to between .41 and .42 but when I turn the accelerator the voltage does not increase accordingly.

What does it do ?

when you open the throttle slowly the voltage should go from .41 to.42 .43 .44 etc all the way to (should be 5.00 v but never is)
4.65 v

Whats the voltage at WOT ?

The voltage is what it is at idle, between .41 and .42. It doesn't change at all.

TPS voltage

Is the pin on the butterfly shaft bent or broken? Sounds like the TPS actuator is not moving when you push down on the accelerator.
I would suggest removing the TPS get it on your workbench and put a meter on it see if you can get the resistance to change over the sweep area. If not then the part itself needs replacing.

That piece isn't broken or bent. It moves with the throttle. I will take it off though and check for resistance. How do I do that?

Nevermind guys. I figured it out. I didn't have the metal piece in front of the pin. My setting at idle is .411 volts and wide open throttle is 4.35 volts. Does that sound okay or should I keep adjusting it?
