Whats a good core to start with.

Im building a gn motor from scratch. What is the best core motor to build up???? 3.8 roller, 1987 block, the 4.1, or the stage II. Where do I get a stage II?? Are they used in the new front wheel drive cars?? Like the supercharged Grand Prix? Can they be used in the GN's?

are there 4.1 liter stage II's??

Street to Street/Strip? Use a 109 block. You can sometimes pick one up at a junk yard. They were used as Goodwrench replacement motors. You would be better off using the stock crank with rolled fillets on all journals. If you can't find one, then the Eagle Crank would be the next best choice, but a little more pricey, and requires more work and parts. After that would be the Stage II motors, or the TA aluminum block. Alot more money. FWD motors?? Nope. Completely different animal. Aside from displacement, they don't share much.

I have an '87 GN 109 casting shortblock that should be done in about 1 week from my machine shop as they did the line bore on it last week. It has .020" JE pistons, Total Seal file fit rings, polished stock rods with ARP rod bolts, billet #2/#3 main caps with ARP studs, and GN crank. Is fresh from the machine shop with zero miles. Comes with balancer/flexplate/oil pan/oil pickup tube. Balanced and blueprinted good for 700hp+. $2700 no core needed

Are the heads salvageable on your car? If not I can provide a complete motor from heads/intake/TB from stock to fully ported iron heads that made 700hp+ with a TE-63 turbo on my friends TType.

'86-87 GN 3.8i 109 block casting for 10's, TA block, Stage 1, or Stage 2 for faster than that to do it reliably. Going to a Stage motor will cost easily $15K to do it right using some used parts in the mix... probably closer to $25K when headers/turbos/intercooler/downpipes/oiling system/and fuel management is added into the mix.

Stage 1 and 2 blocks/cranks and other parts are no longer made and command big $$$'s by collectors/enthusiasts. Unless you plan to run 9's or faster and have some big cash laying around you should stick with a built stock based motor.

There is a Stage 2 forum section in here you know! I would look in there.

What budget do you have? How fast do you want to go?

The FWD 3.8 blocks aren't interchangeable BTW.
