MT Drag Radials..

I just got a set of 275/50/15 for the Regal. I'm going racing tomorrow and was wondering if anyone else has these and has already been to the track. Just wanted some starting reference points on pressure and heating procedure.

Thanks

I went 1.55 60' with them but the car just was not making any power. Should go 1.4's once I get it figured out. Anyway I have the 275/60/15's on 10" wide rims though and set the tires at 14psi. I did a pretty good sized burnout but I honestly think it was over kill. I could have probably just done a small burnout and rolled out once I saw smoke. Pulled the tires about a foot and a half off the ground though. I couldnt believe it.

Rob and Steve Crissafulli went 9.38 on them - see the stage II forum. I think Steve told me that he was running 18 psi and that he had gone as low as 12 and they were still ok. He did a pretty mild burnout on that pass.

Sounds good guys. Thanks for the input. I'll try the tires around 18-20 psi to start with with a mild burnout.

Fingers are crossed the car will run well. Going for the first time with this car to get some base line numbers. And wouldn't you know the time I get to go, they're having a "street" car race with classes tomorrow.

Man, I hope I don't have the slowest one there. But at least I'll know what I have to work with.

Thanks again

I haven't been to the track with mine yet, but on the street I've been runnin 30 lbs. like a "real" radial. Very sticky.

Be sure to let us know how you do - I'm curious as to how the 50s work (I got 50s too).

Jim, how are these tires on cold ground? I was driving home one night from work on 46, whacked it at 45-50mph cruise and got my car sideways on my nittos. Are the MT's better on cool/cold asphalt?

Jim,

I've only had them a week or two, but driving around in this 40-degree weather doesn't seem to affect them. They're still sticky. I'm sure at some point the temperature will affect them, but I'm not sure what the magic number is.

Ok guys. Race report.

Ran the tires at 18psi. Mild burnout. Left with 10 psi and they went a 1.77 60ft. I wasn't disappointed with the tires, they seemed to hook the car great. It was my first time out with this car and I think it has a few bugs to work out from it's 13.13 @102

I did the same 1.77 on my 60ft but left at 7 psi. My tire pressure was 18psi. The tires don't like too much boost off the line and too low air pressure. My best time was a 12.3@97 with the 1.77 60ft. Would had probally managed a 11's that night but did not have enough time.

They're 15x8" Draglites with 3.5" BS. Tires are 275/50. Visually they're a lot more appealing than the 275/60 BFGs I had on it and they're stickier.

My ET Radials worked as good as my ET Drags. First pass launched at 3lbs netted 1.72 60'. Launched at 5lb next two runs and got a 1.63 and a 1.63. Tires had 18lbs in them with a mild burnout. As a matter of fact I just sold my extra set of drag lites and slicks. No more slicks for me. All three runs were 11.70s. Can't wait to lean on the car.

Streetknight, I didn't know that was you at Steele. I got to meet the guy in the other blue regal but didn't get a chance to meet you. I was doing my best to help out in the staging lanes with all the classes and was pretty busy.

Nice car and nice runs btw..

I drove in the rain a few times on 'em, before I hydroplanned and wrecked my LS1 F-bod.. lol. If you drive safe, and keep the revs down, they actually handle pretty well in the rain.

Thanks for the info--i noticed you had longer wheel studs---that is not because of this wheel/tire set-up is it?

Anybody using the 16" tires? Will the extra sidewall on the 15" make much of a difference on 11/12 second cars?
