car was started with no oil...ran for 20 sec. damage likely?

My buddy...I wont mention any names was changing the oil in his t type and got in a hurry. Started it after he put the filter on and ran for 15 - 20 seconds before it hit him what he had forgotten. Car runs and sounds fine. Think it hurt anything?

Well, I don't know, but I can tell you this: My car got ran with no oil pressure for about 10 seconds and spun a rod bearing 2 weeks later with no detonation. Good luck.

Is this with a daily driver?

I know of a guy who used to work at a dealership when he 18 as an oil changer. He would drain the oil at one end of the buliding then drive to the other end with no oil in the car to fill it. No telling how many cars he did this to!

Changed oil on my Jeep about 3 weeks ago and the old gasket stayed on the housing which twisted with the new gasket, spewing forth about 2 litres of oil with no pressure on the gauge. Only ran for about 20 secs. No ill effects at all and my garage floor has a nice sheen to it.

DO WHAT?!! What kind of dealership (or any place for that matter) would operate like that? Why couldn't he put the oil in where it was drained?

Well I did the same thing when I hade my first GN back in 1987. Started it up, and drove it off the ramps it was on then turned it off, as I realized what I had done. This was with 20k miles on the car. Drove it to 90K miles in three years with no problems. Car was stock.

So, maybe you will be lucky as well.
