GM electric mirror

My center mirror fell off the car a few days ago and landed on the shifter. Of course, busting the mirror. I was wondering, since this seems like a good time to upgrade, how difficult it would be to wire up a newer GM rearview with auto-dimming and compass with possible temperature? I would pick one up at the local yard.

From what I've read on other boards, the cost of the sensors are what would make the conversion cost prohibitive. None of the other posts I've seen on the subject give the number of sensors involved, but they always say "sensors". So, I assume there are at least 2. Placement of the temp sensor would be critical to getting a correct temp reading.
