Asked for methanol, they gave me alcohol. I guess its the same. It was a clear fluid.

Just wondering, all costs aside, whats better in terms of longetivity of the alky kit and most especially SPEED?? Denatured alcohol or methanol?

Derek, this thread is for help locating sources, and trying to keep it non technical.

To answer your question,

Depends on pump used. And most get a little better result out of using methanol. The up-side is looking at prices, its pretty inexpensive..once located. The down side is locating it. If you want, make a new thread with your question, or.. you can also search, this subject has been gone through a bit.

If you get a system that can run both liquids.. then you can play with both and make your own judgement. After all.. you cant have a balanced opinion till you try. Same arguement applies to using water mixed with alcohol.

I'm gonna check with a local racing go-cart shop in my area. I was told they sell methanol for about $2 a gallon. If thats true I'll post there address as soon as I find out.

Seems very expensive. Should be half that. For that much per gallon, denatured is very competetive price wise. I'm cheap. I decided to cut my methanol with windshield washer fluid by a third. Don't know how much methanol is in the washer fluid, but there is supposed to be some. Costs under a dollar a gallon at walmart. I saw no performance loss. Ran my best, 12.31 with this mix at 70*.

There is a mechanic in Rantoul, IL that races a 1941 Willy. I bought some from him for around $2.50/gal. The shop name is Roger and Sue's. He is on Grove Street. He is not in the phone book. There is a Roger Campbell listed in Rantoul- (217) 892-9251 . This might be his home.

Blue, I think that the WS is not very um "regulated' so in one bottle you'll have a decent amoutna and none in the other, much safer to get the real mccoy.

has anyone found it on long island for a reasonable price yet??? I cant seem to find a place that sells it for less then 8$ a gallon. For now i'm stuck going to turbotrix in NJ and getting it from them. they sell it for 45$ for a 15 gallon drum, including the drum. I run the methanol on my evolution and I have a few customers who have it in evolutions, an eclipse gsx and a galant with an evolution motor in it.

atco was available by the 55 drum or 3.50 by the gallon (bring a container)
i havent asked about etown prices since i have enough reserve to get me through the rest of the season and they are only a couple minutes from the house , but i was down at atco last night and found i running low on meth and sure enough they had what i was needing .
