Make sure you have good valve springs, more likely if it has the stock ones they are old and weak.
If the car is stock it should shift itself at around 5100-5250ish. If it does let it shift it self and leave it in 3rd -D- all the way through the 1/4.....
If you shift it I wouldnt go past 5400, wont be making power up there.
